I teach at an over-crowded urban high school in one of the nation's largest cities. My school was so over-crowded and "underachieving" that my Small Learning Community (SLC) of 320 students and 14 teachers was invited to move off campus. We are now located above the local Adult School campus. Last year was our first year on the new campus. This summer, the district undertook a construction project to create more classrooms and to install a science lab. After over 9 months it still remains unfinished and unusable, but when it is complete it will be my first opportunity to teach laboratory science in a real science lab...most of my teaching has been in English classrooms. I was excited when I was moved to an Art classroom because we got a sink! I'm very excited at the prospect of my students getting to learn science by doing it!
